The Cosmaro: The Latest Cocktail Making a Buzz in Rome

In recent years, the Negroni and the Spritz (and their myriad variations) have gained international popularity. As well, the appeal of Italian amari, such as Amaro Montenegro, Amaro Nonino, and Fernet Branca, seems to maintain its global trend.

Now, in Italy’s capital city of Rome, the Cosmaro is the latest cocktail making a buzz. Understated. Sophisticated. Delicious. The Cosmaro is a perfect late-summer philter for Italian cocktail lovers.

As its namesake might suggest, the Cosmaro takes its inspiration from the Cosmopolitan, (and the spritz), and a deep appreciation for Italian spirits. An elegant composition of amaro, cranberry juice, lemon juice, triple sec, and prosecco, the Cosmaro celebrates the promise of autumn with its bronze impressions, subtle effervescence, and characteristically Italian flavors.

Any amaro can be used for the Cosmaro, but here at Roman Vacations we prefer Amaro CalAmaro (also known as the “Amaro of the Abyss” ) distilled and distributed by Pallini S.p.A. in Rome.

CalAmaro’s bold yet balanced aromas of gentian, orange peel, peppermint, and liquorice give this cocktail its tonal roots, while the added tartness of citrus and cranberry, and the light, fruitiness of prosecco deliver surprisingly complementary finishing notes—the Cosmaro is truly the cocktail 2025 has been waiting for. And until now, you could only find it here, in the heart of the Eternal City.

Indeed, L’Arciliuto Jazz Club & Restaurant is the birthplace of the Cosmaro. Situated in the center of Rome, once an ancient domus (and subsequently a 15th-century palazzo), L’Arciliuto has since been transformed into a gorgeous venue for live jazz music, authentic Italian cuisine, and truly inspired cocktails.

L’Arciliuto now boasts two interior bars, charming alcoves and lounges, and a warm, welcoming staff. A great date-night spot for those seeking an intimate, luscious atmosphere. An evening at L’Arciliuto promises to be an unforgettable experience for anyone visiting Rome.

Wherever you are, Roman Vacations invites you to raise a Cosmaro to memories of summer, to the approaching autumn, to health, happiness, and love. Salute!
